Ocho Rios

On the third day of our trip we went to Ocho Rios, Jamaica. It was definitely different than the paradise I had in my mind. It's a pretty poor country and so poverty levels are high. There is garbage in all of the streets and yards and pretty filthy. There were some parts of it that were nice, but the city was definitely not nice.

There are tons of houses that are unfinished throughout the whole country side. People start building and then run out of money - not too uncommon from what happens here.

We went to the Brimmer Hall Plantation for a tour. It was pretty fun and really interesting.

This is our tour guide showing us what sugar cane looks like. We tasted some of it - it's about the consistency of tough celery, and has a very light sweetness to it. It wasn't too bad.

 This is Jamaica's national fruit. I can't remember what's it called, but I do remember that it's poisonous until it blooms and you cook it.

One of our tour guides was more than happy to show-off for us. He was climbing up the coconut trees and flirting like crazy. He was pretty entertaining.

Mmm...  chocolate. So for all of you that didn't know, this is what cocoa beans look like. Really. They come in a yellow pod looking thing, and in the inside they are white and squishy. You can eat them just like they are (which Arla did) or they cook them down into chocolate. The crazy tour guide tried hard to getting me to eat one, but no way Jose. (except we were in Jamaica, so his name probably wasn't Jose.)

After we went to the plantation it was off to lunch. We went to a really nice hotel and had some good grub. We had some Jamaican jerk chicken, some pork, rice, etc. It was awesome...

Oh yeah... a like 70 yr old guy totally offered me some "sunshine."

After lunch it was time to go climb the famous Dunn's River Falls.

There were some really fun spots in the falls where you could sit and slide down them. There were some awesome guides who took you up the falls and carried everyone's cameras and took some great pictures!

We had so much fun! Oh yeah... and our tour guide totally fell in love with me. Hahaha. He even gave me his number...
